About The Position

Join ChildServe as a Medical Childcare Lead and contribute to the great life of children and young adults by supporting their health, growth, and skill development. You will be the lead caregiver for an assigned group of children with medical needs and developmental delays, working towards goals on their individualized care plans. About ChildServe’s Medical Childcare Program: ChildServe’s Medical Childcare program provides specialized weekday care for children and teens with significant medical needs and developmental delays, offering a uniquely integrated model of nursing, education, and therapy. Our program is staffed by specially trained caregivers who work alongside nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists to deliver individualized treatment plans built into the day—allowing families to spend time together after work and school, rather than managing multiple appointments. Child-centered and goal-driven, our program helps children build self-confidence, social competence and life skills in a safe, inspiring environment. Schedule and Location Location: 644 24th St Des Moines, IA 6 minutes from Drake University Campus, 7 minutes from Mercy College Campus Full-Time, 7:30 AM to 4 PM

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of experience working with children; experience supporting children with medical complexities or diagnoses preferred.
  • Must complete and pass the National DCI fingerprint process, child/adult abuse and criminal background checks, and the child abuse affidavit prior to hire and every two years thereafter.
  • Must pass a ChildServe physical exam at hire and as required, and complete a two-step TB test and annual flu shot.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, move freely throughout clinic areas, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.
  • Maintain composure in a fast-paced environment with varying behaviors and demands; communicate effectively in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead individual and group activities that promote children’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
  • Adapt lesson plans and instructional methods to meet each child’s unique needs, interests, and therapeutic goals.
  • Follow all aspects of each child’s Individual Care Plan and support skill development to promote independence.
  • Maintain a safe, engaging, and organized program area while collaborating regularly with the care team.
  • Communicate effectively with families and team members, sharing relevant updates and documentation in a timely manner.
