About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Medical Attendant will have a variety of responsibilities relating to the support of camp programs, health, and safety. The Medical Attendant will provide nursing care for camp attendees who are sick and/or injured, help to mitigate illness and promotion of good health within limits of state licensure and in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives.

Requirements

  • Must have a medical license or certification in the State of Alaska and in good standing
  • One (1) year related experience
  • One (1) year in emergency response experience
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • Successfully pass background check
  • Ability to effectively communicate and direct attendees in an emergency to promptly react and assist as needed
  • Ability to provide care in remote locations with limited access and resources
  • Ability to perform, remain calm, and think critically in high stress situations
  • Work assigned schedule without interruptions or distractions.
  • Able to climb on uneven surfaces, and stairs, and participate in physical recreational activities.
  • Lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds, if needed, using appropriate and safe lifting techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the cleanliness of the Nuchek Island medical building while camp is in session.
  • Maintains camp’s medical forms for all attendees to include but not limited to allergies, medications, and physical/health restrictions.
  • Secures prescription inventory, and follow-up with supply orders and screen for expiration dates.
  • Maintains a supply of common non-prescription medications and issue to attendees as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality and care notes for all services provided in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules.
  • Provides all notes and paperwork to Program Director for proper storage or disposal in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Administers prescription medications from original containers to youth attendees as authorized by attendee’s parent or guardian in the general medical forms and application.
  • Relates health and wellness to youth attendees by one-on-one teaching and by setting a positive example.
  • Adheres to established company safety policies and ability to work in a safe manner, using any required personal protective equipment (PPE) as may be required.
  • Provides general first aid to attendees and assesses situations.
  • Communicates professional opinion/recommendation on status of attendees to Program Director.
  • Acts as the Nuchek Island liaison to outside resources like hospitals, insurance service coordinators/providers (Medivac), and the corporate office.
  • Creates a follow up care plan with attendees as needed.
  • Monitors symptoms of attendees to determine if they are safe to recover on island or will need to travel to a hospital for additional professional care.
  • Assists with coordinating emergency travel and transport of attendees as directed.
  • Assists the Program Coordination Team with implementing the “Contagious Disease Mitigation Plan.”
  • Maintains working knowledge of the “Emergency Action Plan” and the “Safety Data Sheets Binder.”
  • Provides recommendations for improvement to camp procedures and practices related to medical services.
  • Participates in the camp community and is readily available to provide care to attendees at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
