Requirements

  • High school or equivalent (Required)
  • Have completed a formal Medical Assisting program
  • EMR systems: 1 year (Required)
  • Vital signs: 1 year (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish speaking capability is preferred
  • BLS Certification (Preferred)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in directing the provider to the appropriate exam room and assists them in documenting the patient’s visit in the EHR. If appropriate, goes into the exam patient’s room with the provider and always conducts themselves in a professional manner.
  • Coordinates with other staff to ensure a timely start to each shift with rooms stocked and patients roomed by the provider’s start time.
  • Prepares charts for patient visits, especially new patients, making sure all test results and reports from referring and other pertinent provider are available for the patient’s visit.
  • Directs the patients to check-out.
  • Works with provider on maximizing provider efficiency and productivity.
  • Knows how to navigate in the EHR and quickly learns provider preferences and patterns to efficiently document the visit and helps to increase provider’s productivity.
  • Understands the importance of CPT codes and that everything entered in the system is under the provider’s direction/responsibility. Is familiar with basic coding principles.
  • Makes sure that all documentation is correct and professional in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Is familiar with medical terminology in general and procedures.
  • Is familiar with and follows sterile techniques and universal precautions.
  • Washes and sterilizes instruments whenever time permits and on days not scribing for a provider.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality, complies with HIPAA, OSHA, compliance guidelines, clinical and office policies established by our practice.
