Job Title: Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant Cost Center: 351011099 Beaver Dam-Primary Care Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Employee Type: Regular Work Shift: 8-hour day shifts, variable days (United States of America) Job Description: This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus JOB SUMMARY The Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare team by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The Medical Assistant performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic’s mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. JOB SUMMARY The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare teams by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The individual performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health System’s (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program
  • Documented successful completion of the following courses or (their recognized course equivalent): Medical Terminology from an accredited institution or completed on line through Universal Class. Anatomy & Physiology or Body Structure & Function or Human Body in Health & Disease from an accredited institution or completed on line through Universal Class. Pharmacology from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of Medical Assistant-related work experience and completion of the required educational courses listed above within the first 12 months from hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) diploma.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire and one of the following: - Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification awarded by the American Association or Medical Assistants (AAMA) - Registered Medical Assistant registration from the American Medical Technologist (AMT) -Registered Medical Assistant registry from the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) -Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Prepares instruments, equipment and materials needed for patient care; keeps exam room aseptic, neat and supplied.
  • Obtains and documents complete patient data in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepares patients for exams and assists provider with exams/tests/procedures as needed.
  • Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures and tests when appropriate.
  • Performs basic procedures as ordered by provider and within scope of practice.
  • Processes provider’s orders, prepares appropriate forms, and schedules appointments and services. Arranges for hospital admission when indicated.
  • Insures that charges are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Assists the provider with obtaining test results.
  • Proficiently uses computer applications as required for patient care.
  • Processes prescriptions as directed.
  • Communicates with patients regarding their concerns, collects information, and relays this information professionally and efficiently to the provider.
  • Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
  • Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
  • Trains and mentors new employees and students.
  • Acts as a resource for problem solving and leads change initiatives within the department
  • Assists in policy and procedure development and review
  • May participate in interviews
  • Stays up-to-date in job-related skills, competencies, and required certification(s) or registries.

Benefits

  • Positions listed as 30 hours per week or greater are offered the level 1 benefit package. Positions listed as 20 – 29 hours per week are offered the level 2 benefit package. Positions listed as less than 19 hours per week are non-benefited.
