About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: This position is devoted to the delivery of exceptional, patient-centered primary and behavioral health care to patients of all ages in an ambulatory setting, specifically the Mobile Health Unit (MHU). The MA performs both clinical and administrative duties to ensure a smooth workflow, enhance patient experience, and promote access to care for underserved populations at various sites within the communities served by OCHC. The MA performs duties and carries out the necessary functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and standing orders. The MA Skill Checklist completed during orientation and probationary periods and updated as needed, will indicate the duties and responsibilities the MA is privileged to perform. Phlebotomy experience/certification preferred. For this position, we are seeking a professional and reliable individual with experience and comfort working independently to support medical providers on the MHU.

Requirements

• Two years or more in a clinic, physician’s office, or medical/psychiatric hospital setting
• Certification as a Medical Assistant, Associates of Science with AAMA certification preferred.
• Certification in CPR is mandatory.
• Experience with adult and pediatric patients is required.

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy experience/certification preferred.
• Nursing students who have completed at least two nursing clinical rotations will be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain (clean, organize) patient care and supply areas on MHU in preparation for patient care.
• Measure and document vital signs.
• Review, collect, and document patient medical history, medications, reason for visit, and additional intake information using appropriate tools and protocols within the EHR (Epic) per OCHC rooming protocol.
• Perform pre-visit screenings following protocols approved by OCHC and the ordering provider.
• Screen and educate the patient as directed by the ordering provider in health maintenance, disease prevention, and compliance with the patient’s treatment plan.
• Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as ordered by the provider and within legal boundaries.
• Prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding IV) medications and immunizations (vaccines) per protocol as directed by and under supervision of the ordering provider, and as permitted by Wisconsin law.
• Perform CLIA-waived tests (including Blood glucose, UA, HCG, Hemasure, HgA1C, Lead, strep tests, swabs), per protocol.
• Perform EKGs, Spirometry, vision and hearing screens, and other clinical screenings as required.
• Perform phlebotomy to obtain and process blood/serum specimens per protocol.
• Follow up with test results under the direction.
• Assist in the establishment, organization, and maintenance of patient medical records.
• Document patient communication and clinical treatments timely, accurately, and appropriately.
• Maintain medication and immunization records in the EHR with the Wisconsin Immunization Registry.
• Serve as the communication liaison and patient advocate between the patient and health care team.
• Recognize and respond to emergencies.
• Adapt communication to an individual’s understanding.
• Recognize and respond effectively to verbal, nonverbal, and written communications.

• Perform and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment for the MHU including attention to supply levels and expiratory dates
• Perform routine maintenance of clinical equipment.
• Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments.
• Employ professional telephone and interpersonal techniques, applying medical terminology appropriately in all settings.
• Perform and actively participate in quality control, quality improvement, and organizational strategic plans.
• Identify community resources for health maintenance and disease prevention to meet individual patient needs.
• Apply computer and other electronic equipment techniques to support office operations which may include tasks such as paperwork management, faxing, prior authorizations, etc.
• Receive, organize, prioritize, store, and maintain transmittable information utilizing electronic technology.
• Attend and actively participate in department and other organizational meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Maintain skills through continuing education.
• Identify and respond to issues of confidentiality.
• Perform tasks within legal and ethical boundaries.
• Comply with established risk management and safety procedures.
• Recognize professional credentialing criteria.
• Adhere to and enforce HIPAA regulation.
• Provide MA coverage at OCHC clinic as directed when not working on the MHU or completing assigned MHU tasks.
