About The Position

Outside In is a patient-centered, primary care outpatient clinic. Medical Assistants work in a team to serve diverse, homeless, and underserved populations of all ages. Medical Assistants will work with other staff and providers to support patient care, including clinical, administrative, mobile clinic, and general duties within the scope of the Medical Assistant practice. Medical Assistants may be scheduled and expected to report to work at the main clinic or various outreach sites. This is a full-time, union-represented non-exempt position with a pay of $21.60 per hour. Medical Assistant 1 (without certification) starting wage: $23.70 - $26.16 Medical Assistant 2 (with certification) starting wage: $25.64 - $28.30

Requirements

• Knowledge of infection control principles and practices.
• Knowledge of HIPAA laws and patient rights.
• Able to work with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and sexual preference backgrounds.
• Must have completed a Medical Assisting program with an externship or 2 years of experience in a medical office setting as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
• Certification is required within 3 months. Certification must be with one of the following: AAMA or CCMA or NCCT.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience using an Electronic Health Record is preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

• Obtain and document patient history, vital signs, and other established screening procedures.
• Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Prepare and administer medications, injections and immunizations.
• Recognize and respond to emergencies.
• Apply principles of aseptic technique and infection control.
• Perform CLIA waived tests (HgbA1C, HIV, Hgb, UA, and Strep).
• Work as part of Mobile Medical Outreach.
• Performs basic administrative medical assisting functions.
• Facilitate relationships between providers and referral coordinators to assure image scheduling and referrals to other agencies and medical specialists.
• Treat all patients with compassion and empathy.
• Explain methods of health and disease prevention
• Participate in quality improvement and workflow development
• Assist in training of medical assistants.
• Comply with established risk management and safety procedures including all required trainings.
