Job Description: The Medical Assistant will support a multidisciplinary surgical team specializing in general, vascular, vein, bariatric, and oncology care. This role requires strong clinical, administrative, and communication skills to ensure seamless coordination of patient care across multiple specialties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Current BLS certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • A minimum of two years of medical assistant (MA) experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures is required.
  • Proficient in EMR systems (preferably eCW) and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands, reaching, and handling.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program and/or certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with a wide range of in-office procedures including lap band adjustments, suture/staple removal, wound care, drain management, port care and flushing, and other provider-directed treatments.
  • Provide clear and thorough pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients, ensuring understanding and adherence to care plans.
  • Offer empathetic education and support to patients and families navigating surgical treatment, including bariatric and oncology care.
  • Collaborate with surgeons and nurse practitioners (NPs) to manage hospital admissions, discharges, and follow-up appointments.
  • Support long-term bariatric patient follow-up and lifestyle management in collaboration with NPs and bariatric centers.
  • Coordinate with infusion centers, radiation oncology, and pathology departments to align oncology care plans and ensure timely results.
  • Collaborate with referral coordinators for urgent or complex oncology referrals.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding oncology treatment plans and medical concerns.
  • Monitor and ensure accurate, timely completion of MIPS (Merit-based Incentive Payment System) requirements for all providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
