About The Position

Under general supervision, assists in all aspects in the delivery of primary care, within their scope of practice

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with college courses or trade school specific to medical assisting.
  • Must have Vision Screening and Audiometry Screening certification.
  • Must have current CPR Certificate.
  • Must have intermediate level language skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before individuals, groups or employees of organization.
  • Must have basic math skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
  • Must have intermediate level reasoning skills. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge good working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet browsers and related software. Must have good working knowledge of medical management software.
  • Proficient with computers, copiers, fax machines, printers, multi-line telephone systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant certification desirable within in six months.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general appearance, cleanliness and supply inventory of the exam rooms, lab, and nurse’s station.
  • Monitor patients height, weight and vital signs; record chronic meds (including strength and dosing schedule), update as needed; Record brief reason for visit.
  • Prepare patient for examination/procedure; assist in treatment of patient as directed by clinician.
  • Give certain medications/injections, including routine vaccinations, under clinician’s written order.
  • Perform routine, CLIA-waived lab procedures (including venipuncture); collect and prepare specimens for transport to lab.
  • Instruct patients regarding preparation for special tests.
  • Daily logging of Lab and Med’s refrigerator/freezers’ temperatures.
  • Autoclaving and maintenance of sterile surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Assist in receiving and stocking of medications, medication samples and supplies.
  • Check monthly for outdated meds and lab diagnostic supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of all medical supplies.
  • Perform periodic testing and calibration of lab diagnostic materials and medical equipment; log as appropriate.
  • Perform finger-sticks, skin test, throat swabs, EKG’s, and ear lavage under supervision of clinician.
  • Call patients with normal lab/test results, or abnormal results per written clinician instruction.
  • Call or fax in refill prescriptions as directed by clinician.
  • Enter CHDP/Immunizations into the INNC Registry and assist in the recall system.
  • Participates in meeting Strategic Plan and Clinic goals as identified annually.
