Our Team Cooley Dickinson Medical Group Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is where experienced, highly trained professionals advance the health of patients through specialized, expert treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal (bones, ligaments, muscles, tendons) problems. The practice’s holistic approach to orthopedics involves coordination of personalized services within the practice and with other providers, to ensure a comprehensive range of care to people of all ages. We have combined expertise in all major orthopedic specialties, including sports medicine, orthopedic trauma, hand & upper extremities, joint replacement and spine care. We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to support our Orthopedics and Sports Medicine office at our West Hatfield location (4 West Street, West Hatfield, MA 01088) onsite Monday through Friday. We are open to this Medical Assistant working either 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. As true partners to our nurses and providers, our Medical Assistants get the opportunity to work autonomously to the top of their education/certification while also functioning as part of the collaborative team. Our Medical Assistants work 1 to 1 with their assigned provider.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
  • Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to the exam rooms and take vital signs. Cleans and restocks exam rooms.
  • Performs a variety of patient care procedures within the Medical Assistant (MA) scope of practice, including but not limited to: EKG’s and point of care testing.
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality of any and all patient records including but not limited to treatment, diagnosis, history, medication, and financial status.
  • Sends in electronic prescriptions for patients that have been instructed by providers, medical authorization and medical reconciliation
  • Communicates with patients regarding laboratory, imaging results and prescription instructions per practice protocol.
  • Coordinates pre-visit preparations including addressing the special needs of patients (i.e. comfort measures, communication, and other appropriate issues), ensuring relevant labs and tests are scheduled and completed prior to office visit, organization of electronic charts, etc.
  • Provides assistance to providers with office procedures
