Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a dermatology practice.
  • Proficiency in using EMR software and technology, along with a deeper understanding of dermatologic terminology and procedures.
  • Must be able to support 22 patients a day on average.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a medical assisting program and/or certification.
  • Enrolled in a pre-med or life sciences degree plan, or has obtained an associate degree

Responsibilities

  • Assists dermatologists in patient care tasks, including preparing patients for examinations and treatments.
  • Manages administrative duties like updating patient records and processing insurance forms.
  • Can perform basic dermatologic procedures such as biopsies, cryotherapy, and wound care under supervision if allowed by state regulations.
  • Educates patients on skincare routines and post-procedure care.
  • Provides patient support by answering questions and explaining procedures.
  • Understands patient flow through the clinic and maintains cleanliness and stocking of rooms.
  • Manages office supplies and inventory, including identifying low stock.
  • Ensures proper cleaning and sterilization techniques for surgical instruments.
  • Sets up biopsy trays correctly; captures clear and accurate photos of biopsy sites and forms.
  • Routes pathology biopsies to appropriate labs.
  • Proficient in electronic medical record (EMA) data entry, including patient history and medications.
  • Proficiently adds detailed patient information and MIPS documentation to completion
  • Manages and responds to patient messages including clear documentation under clinician direction.
  • Obtains and manages consent forms for procedures.
  • Takes and documents proper photos in EMA for biopsy sites and obtaining patient consents.
  • Adds new pharmacies, referring doctors, and patient PCP.
  • Can remove sutures under provider supervision
  • Participates consistently in responding to patient messages and tasks including clear documentation, under MD direction, as appropriate per clinic needs.
  • Assists dermatologists in advanced dermatologic procedures and examinations with minimal supervision.
  • Manages complex administrative tasks, including electronic health records (EHR) management, specialist referrals, and inventory oversight.
  • Provides detailed information to patients on dermatologic conditions, treatments, and skincare products, ensuring positive Net Promoter Scores (NPS).
  • Scribes for providers with a strong understanding of medical terminology.
  • Schedules appointments and understands clinic flow.
  • Manages office supplies and inventory; keeps stocked as appropriate.
  • Understands the importance of MIPS documentation.
  • Assists with cosmetic procedures and prepares Botox and Dysport.
  • Administers injections when appropriate under direction of physician as allowed per state regulation
  • Support the team during PDT procedures by preparing patients and ensuring accurate application of photosensitizing agents while maintaining a high standard of patient care
  • Mentors Level 1 Medical Assistants and provides guidance.
