About The Position

Davis Behavioral Health is seeking full-time Certified Medical Assistant or Medical Secretary to work on the medical team, assisting psychiatrists and nurse practitioners on the adult and youth teams. Under the direction of the Medical Director, Psychiatrists, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, Medical Assistants assist prescribers and clients in the Adult Medical and/or Youth Medical programs by performing administrative tasks to support patient care and keep the medical programs running efficiently. Program Description At DBH, providers work hard to ensure that our clients have the right treatment plan to help them on their journey toward better mental health. For some clients, that treatment may include the use of prescription medications to help manage the symptoms associated with mental health conditions. The DBH medical team coordinates and provides the medication management services help those clients that require medication as part of their treatment plan.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Must complete and maintain Targeted Case Management (TCM) certification. Must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Must complete and maintain First Aid and CPR certification. Must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to perform basic medical procedures, including but not limited to: Vital signs Injections Collect lab specimens
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work well with others as well as work independently and effectively.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in stressful or emotionally charged situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and community agencies.
  • Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants and must comply with the Federal drug laws, including no use of medical marijuana.
  • All employees at DBH must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check as part of DBH's licensing agreement with the State of Utah.
  • Candidates who are offered employment are required to report for a drug screen at an Intermountain WorkMed location within 24 hours of being requested to do so by the DBH Human Resources Department.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Medical Assistant Certifications
  • Previous experience working as a medical assistant.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with severe mental illness and/or substance use disorders
  • Completing prior authorization and other billing-related tasks.
  • Preference will be given for applicants who are fluent in Spanish, but this is not a requirement for employment in this opening.
  • Preference is to hire a Certified Medical Assistant in good standing.
  • Candidates who are pursuing medical assistant certification, have experience as either a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) or other experience directly related to the functions of this position may also be considered.
  • DBH utilizes an electronic health record system, so computer literacy is a must for employment at our agency.
  • Previous experience working in a behavioral health setting is preferred.
  • Be able to assess patient status and evaluate for improvement or worsening in condition.
  • Assess accurately for withdrawals of controlled substances.
  • Work as part of an multidisciplinary team.
  • Be organized.
  • Chart accurately and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Take vital signs.
  • Complete medication refill requests.
  • Complete prior authorization process.
  • Perform urinalysis.
  • Perform injections (certified medical assistants only).
  • Obtain medical records and lab results.
  • Receive and return phone calls.
  • Write letters.
  • Enter required documentation in the electronic medical record system with the established timeframes.
  • Other duties as assigned and required.
