SUMMARY Under the general supervision of a licensed healthcare professional, the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support in the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care. This position functions in accordance with ADAPT Community Network policies and procedures, applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards, while supporting ADAPT’s mission to empower people with disabilities to live full and meaningful lives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program in New York State required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work collaboratively with staff, clinicians, the people we support, and families.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of protected health information and records for the people we support.
  • Ability to analyze problems, exercise sound judgment, and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Passion for ADAPT Community Network’s mission and the nonprofit sector.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of six (6) months of prior experience as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and administrative support to clinicians, including obtaining and documenting vital signs and weights.
  • Assist physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of patient care in accordance with clinical protocols and agency policies.
  • Accurately maintain clinic records, ensuring confidentiality and completeness of evaluations, referrals, and documentation.
  • Carry out clinical tasks and clinician directives accurately, promptly, and within scope of practice.
  • Assist with maintaining medical files, records, purchase orders, and requisitions in collaboration with administrative staff.
  • Coordinate laboratory services, including scheduling specimen pick-up and maintaining required logs.
  • Ensure laboratory reports are received, logged, and distributed to the appropriate clinicians in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and sterilize medical instruments and equipment, including autoclaving, in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection as assigned and trained.
  • Copy and prepare medical records, forms, and documentation as required.
  • Support billing and coding processes under the direction of the Clinic Administrator.
  • Ensure required clinical supplies and equipment are stocked, available, and properly maintained.
  • Participate in clinic planning, performance improvement initiatives, and quality assurance activities.
  • Adhere to agency Infection Control Policies and Procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and responsiveness to the diverse populations served by ADAPT Community Network.
  • Maintain current AMAP training and competencies, including GT feeding and catheterization, as applicable.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Clinic Administrator or designee.
