About The Position

As a Medical Assistant at Geriatric Specialty Care (our Reno clinic), you will support our primary care providers in delivering quality care to patients at our clinic and occasionally to patients in senior living communities. Your role will involve both clinical (back office) and administrative (front office) tasks, ensuring smooth clinic operations and a positive care experience for patients and coworkers. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and a compassionate approach when working with patients and their caregivers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • 3+ years of clinical experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, common medications, procedures in primary care, vitals, phlebotomy, wound care, injections, POC testing, EKGs, etc.
  • Comfortable and adaptable with technology; enjoy working with platforms and tools such as Slack and Talkdesk
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively communicate with staff, vendors, and patients/caregivers
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of primary care settings
  • Must be up-to-date on immunizations, including flu and COVID-19
  • Possession of a valid State Driver's License with a clean DMV record, as well as proof of vehicle insurance
  • Must not be on any exclusion or debarment from participation in Federal Health Care Programs at any time and must remain in good standing with government regulators such as the OIG, CMS, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient check-in, verify demographic and insurance information, and ensure all necessary forms are completed accurately
  • Coordinate patient appointments, manage the provider's schedule, and arrange follow-up visits considering urgency and scheduling constraints
  • Handle inbound communications from patients, caregivers, and other healthcare providers/associates, ensuring effective communication and appropriate routing
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using the Electronic Health Record (EHR), ensuring all clinical documentation is completed in a timely and precise manner
  • Prepare patients for appointments, including setting up sterile work areas, gathering accurate medical histories, and coordinating with caregivers
  • Perform and document biometric measurements such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight
  • Perform phlebotomy and/or specimen collection; ensure proper handling, labeling, preparation, and transportation of samples
  • Perform point-of-care testing and maintain point-of-care supplies; maintain CLIA-compliant in-house lab and related logs
  • Carry out general medical procedures including injections, EKGs, dressing changes, and suture removal under physician supervision, in accordance with training and legal requirements
  • Provide patient education within scope of practice, offering information and support
  • Assist in care coordination by collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as specialists and pharmacists, to facilitate referrals and meet patient care needs
  • Support virtual urgent care setup, assist with in-person patient check-ins, and manage communication with remote care teams
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and restock supplies as needed
