About The Position

Under the supervision of a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse, assists in providing care for patients and coordinating care activities with other healthcare disciplines, and ensures the quality of treatment ordered by providers is to the standard of Orthopaedic Institute for Children.

Requirements

  • High school diploma preferred but not required.
  • Medical Assistant or professional patient care program certification from an accredited institution strongly preferred.
  • One to two years of related medical experience.
  • CPR certified.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred but no required.
  • Ability to take vital signs, maintain quality control standards.
  • Must be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively and take the direction of multiple sources, while maintaining an effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and ware while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
  • Ability to withstand long periods (66-100% of the time) of walking, standing, bending, sitting, holding limbs and or equipment for long periods of time.
  • Spending extended periods of time verbally communicating with patients, families, healthcare team members, and visitors.
  • Requires a high level of dexterity for safe handling of patients, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Effectively cope with typical job stress.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to prioritize job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with initial nursing assessments, re-evaluation and revision of care which integrates the recommendations for the other health team members.
  • Reviews physician or nurse practitioner orders to determine required procedure and prepares supplies accordingly.
  • Identifies patient with 2 identifiers, name and date of birth.
  • Performs procedures, treatments and tests as assigned and which fall under the appropriate scope.
  • Reports to the attending provider the condition of the patient based on observation. May give injections and medications within scope of practice as instructed. Prepares specimens for the lab to be picked up.
  • Provides patients with discharge instructions and after visit summary.
  • Charts all actions taken within the scope of practice and at the direction of the provider.
  • Cleans and sets up exam rooms. Rooms patients in to their assigned bed.
  • Receives and records results of procedures and tests.
  • Performs supporting clerical functions. To include phones, filing, copying, obtaining records and preparation of forms.
  • Arrives patients to scheduled appointments and collect necessary co-payments as instructed by patients my chart.
