As a part of Uptown Community Health Center, Seton Women's Center sees patients of all backgrounds for Obstetrics and Gynecological care. As the main clinic for a Residency program we have over 25 different Providers who rotate through our clinic. Summary Medical Assistants (MAs) perform administrative and clinical duties. The clinical aspects of this position include working closely with providers, assisting with patient examinations and treatments, performing various tests, and maintaining medical equipment and supplies. MAs are pivotal in managing how the patient flows through the office visits and coordinating with other care team members. The administrative aspects of the Medical Assistant position include scheduling all types of appointments and diagnostic testing; answering and documenting phone calls; and ensuring the patient is connected with appropriate care team members. Also coordinating the completion of paperwork and assisting with medication refills. In the learning environment of a residency program, Medical Assistants play a crucial role in upholding and educating standard work processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers required
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Certification through the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants
  • Two (2) years experience in integrated healthcare or primary care.
  • Experience with Epic application and heath record.
  • Experience working with and sensitivity toward special populations, including those with limited income, limited education, and non-English speaking individuals.
  • Bilingual English / Spanish, complete comprehension, literacy and fluency in both languages

Responsibilities

  • Be available to work in person as scheduled and report to work on time regularly and reliably.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy environment by adhering to organization standards, policies, and procedures, and to legal regulations; alerting others with potential concerns.
  • Communicates in a professional, clear, effective, and compassionate way with patients, visitors, and coworkers. Both in person, on the telephone, and with written communication.
  • Prepare and conduct a pre-clinic huddle for the half day with the assigned provider by identifying each patient's needs and care gaps.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patients; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Perform all clinical skills competently (including explaining, preparing, and helping patient) including but not limited to performing: arranging room and necessary supplies, vital signs, injections, obtaining specimens, venipuncture, blood pressure, Non-Stress Tests, EKG, respiratory treatments, vision and hearing exams, pulse oximetry, and other skills as specified by Uptown.
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments and equipment; administering medications; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood, preparing patients for x-rays; taking x-rays; removing sutures; changing dressings.
  • Under the direction and guidance of providers, the medical assistant relays messages to patients, including normal results.
  • Proper and accurate documentation within the electronic medical health record: recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and protects medical office operations by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
  • Generates revenue by recording billing information of services rendered; completing insurance forms; responding to insurance and other third-party inquiries.
  • Maintains a clean work area and lab: Clean and stock the exam rooms in accordance with the Kanban system. Keeps medical and office supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Participate in and Attend huddles, required staff meetings, standard work meetings, trainings, and associate events.
