The Medical Assistant will support the daily operations of the gastroenterology office by providing clinical and administrative assistance to physicians, clinicians, and patients. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team and support our mission.

Requirements

  • Certification of Completion of accredited MA program (CMA or RMA) is required
  • 1+ year(s) of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in Gastroenterology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, providers, and team members
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare charts for upcoming appointments by adding Past Medical History (PMH), medications and allergies, past surgeries/hospitalizations, social history, family history and any other pertinent information
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment by taking vital signs, medical history, and documenting information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Send orders for labs, diagnostic imaging, procedures, referrals and other care ordered by the provider and follow up to see that care is completed and reports are in the chart
  • Responsible for entering recalls and helping to contact the patient to schedule as needed
  • Handle new prescription/prescription refills as directed by the physician
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and other team members to ensure patient care is delivered seamlessly and safely
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards
  • Participate in Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) as needed
  • Answer and triage phone calls accordingly and assist patients when possible
  • Provide patient education related to procedures, tests, medications and insurance coverage as needed
  • Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as needed basis
  • Maintain patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
