About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides medical support services for the clinic providers. The Medical Assistant (MA) performs patient-oriented procedures under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for providing high standards of patient care, maintaining a positive, caring, professional attitude, and working together with all staff members as a team player. Reports to the Director of Nursing. Physical demands: Frequent: standing and walking, lifting and moving objects up to 24lbs, positioning patients, exposure to bodily fluids, exposure to infectious disease, exposure to emotional crisis of others, repetitive motion (hands/arms), independent problem solving. Constant: listening, speaking in person or on the phone, close eye work, reading, and writing, working with the public and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, no certification needed.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, maintain patient confidentiality, prioritize to maintain optimum clinic back office flow, be flexible to meet the needs of patients and co-workers, and use discretion/good judgment.
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts, Saturday shifts as needed, and rotate when needed to other sites.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and eligibility to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • CLINICAL PRACTICE Prepares and stocks rooms daily.
  • Ensures adequate supplies and equipment are in each exam room.
  • Reviews patient charts for completeness, ensuring all pertinent information is available (i.e. lab reports, X-ray reports).
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms.
  • Obtains all patients' vital signs with accurate readings: temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, and blood pressure with proper documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Assists and/or chaperones all patients as appropriate.
  • Collects and processes specimens accurately: Urine UC/CS Stool OB Urine – dip Sputum Urine HCG - Throat culture - Wound culture - Hematocrit Blood glucose/finger stick/one touch monitor
  • TECHNICAL AND ETHICAL COMPETENCY Adheres to Northeastern Rural Health Clinics' clinical policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates patient advocacy, which ensures patients' rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Selects appropriate areas of growth for maintaining current practice Maintains accountability, which includes efficient use of time and materials.
  • Maintains exam room with supplies, restocking the rooms appropriately.
  • Maintains an organized and clean patient environment.
  • Demonstrates consistent proficiency in documentation.
  • Makes arrangements for referrals and other services according to providers' orders.
  • OTHER DUTIES Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility, and willingness to do extra work as needed, on an intermittent basis.
  • May be cross-trained for other programs. Once trained may be required to work in other programs as needed.
  • INDIVIDUAL CRITERIA Attendance and punctuality is required.
