The University Health Center provides a comprehensive array of health care services and health education programs to JMU students. Included in our health care services are several medical clinics, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, and other programs that provide services for more than 30,000 patient encounters a year. UHC practices evidence-based medicine in a confidential, inclusive environment. This is a 10 month position.

Requirements

  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn an electronic health record system

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy and/or EKG experience
  • Previous work experience in a medical setting
  • Experience maintaining inventory and supplies
  • Experience making and reconciling purchases in a commercial setting

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Medical Assistant for Acute Care Clinics.
  • Perform check-in for medical appointments
  • Perform medical procedures/treatments per qualifications
  • Assist providers as needed
  • Assist with training of student volunteers
  • Purchase and receive all requested/approved medical supplies, equipment and furniture in conjunction with JMU Procurement policies and procedures
  • Secure, monitor and reconcile department purchase documents
  • Complete monthly inventory counts, annually and as needed using electronic system
  • Manage stock accurately and resolve any discrepancies involving lots and expiration dates.
  • Set reorder limits as set by clinic staff and order as needed
  • Maintain stock in clinic closets and exam rooms
  • Perform monthly expiration date checks for all clinics, with appropriate documentation.
  • Manage receipt and coordination of student medication deliveries.
  • Maintain master file of student deliveries and contact student when medication arrives
  • Coordinate infusions with home health nurse, student and patient care coordinator.
