About The Position

This position provides assistance with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a registered nurse or provider (physician or advanced practice provider). Key responsibilities include performing select clinical duties, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, and accurately recording information on patients' charts. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for preparing treatment rooms for patient examinations and performing basic clerical duties such as answering phones, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing. Additionally, the role involves basic materials management functions, including ordering and stocking supplies, and assisting with maintaining a clean and orderly environment. The Medical Assistant may also document the provider's encounter with patients, list proper diagnoses and symptoms, provide follow-up instructions and prescriptions as indicated by the provider, and transcribe patient orders for laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications. The role requires working in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience (for all states).
  • For Wisconsin ONLY: High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience, AND graduate from medical assistant school or training program or education equivalency for certification.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • One of the following certifications: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Clinical medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) - American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Allied Health Association (AAH), Medical Assistant Certification (MAC) - American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Association of Medical Personnel (AAMP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA).

Responsibilities

  • Assists with treatments ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse.
  • Performs select clinical duties.
  • Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing.

  • May document the provider's encounter with patients.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
