The Lead Medical Assistant position is a full-time, 40-hour role within a fast-paced, patient-centered orthopedic practice. This role involves hands-on clinical support and oversight of a team of three Medical Assistants and two Orthopedic Technicians. The Lead Medical Assistant is a vital member of the care team, responsible for leadership and oversight of clinical operations and Medical Assistant staff under the direction of the Practice Manager. The position serves as a role model and resource, acting as a liaison between clinical staff, the Practice Manager, and the Medical Director or Physicians, facilitating communication, coordinating new clinical initiatives, and addressing clinical issue resolutions to enhance operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Certified Medical Assistant - required
  • Experience as a medical assistant, with demonstrated proficiency in clinical and administrative tasks
  • 3-5 years experience as a medical assistant required
  • Prior leadership or Lead Medical Assistant experience required
  • Ambulatory orthopedic practice experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on clinical support.
  • Oversee a team of three Medical Assistants and two Orthopedic Technicians.
  • Room patients.
  • Assist with orthopedic procedures.
  • Coordinate daily staffing coverage.
  • Step in to support coverage as needed.
  • Ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the team.
  • Assist with scheduling.
  • Attend meetings.
  • Collaborate closely with practice leadership.
  • Serve as a point of contact to escalate workflow or staffing concerns.
  • Exercise appropriate leadership and oversight of clinical operations and Medical Assistant staff throughout the assigned site or department under the direction of the Practice Manager.
  • Perform the duties of a Medical Assistant.
  • Serve as a role model and resource for site staff.
  • Act as a liaison between the site-based clinical staff, the Practice Manager, and the Medical Director or Physicians.
  • Facilitate office-wide communication.
  • Coordinate new clinical initiatives.
  • Address clinical issue resolutions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist in complex office-based procedures and provide clinical oversight for quality control programs.
  • Provide leadership to the medical assisting team, including training, mentoring, and performance guidance.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring proper workload distribution and effective utilization of resources.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth.
  • Coordinate patient flow, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of care.
  • Assist with patient intake, including obtaining medical history, vital signs, and preparing patients for examination.
  • Participate in the interview process for new MAs and serve as a preceptor for new hires or students.
  • Supervise clinic support staff and create coverage schedules for the MA team.
  • Assist with competency assessment for other MAs and provide input on performance evaluations.
