About The Position

Join a growing, fast-paced clinic with a collaborative care team at Riley Orthopedics. This role involves working alongside Medical Assistants, Cast Technicians, Providers, and PAs to support patient care and clinic flow. The position is located at 575 Riley Hospital Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46202, with a schedule of Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, totaling 40 hours per week during the day, with no weekends or holidays. Under the supervision of a designated supervisor and assigned physician, the Medical Assistant II performs duties related to direct patient care and clinical direction in accordance with organizational standards. Key responsibilities include ensuring the completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, maintaining smooth patient flow, performing general lab work, instructing patients on procedures and treatments, and ensuring medical orders and referrals are executed accurately and timely. The role also involves registration and scheduling activities, maintaining EMR files, and performing general front office functions. The Medical Assistant II may perform computerized physician order entry if directed by the assigned physician and is expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.

Requirements

  • Certification Required
  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
  • Basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous MA experience preferred
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies
  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire
  • Friendly, outgoing, and builds rapport quickly

Responsibilities

  • Room patients
  • Clean and turn over exam rooms
  • Obtain vitals and prepare patients for exams
  • Perform office procedures (dressing changes, suture/staple removal, casting application/removal, DME applications)
  • Assist with stocking supplies and inventory
  • Prepare clinical charts and scan documents
  • Manage patient messages and inquiries
  • Assures completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Assures smooth patient flow
  • Performs general lab work
  • Instructs patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs
  • Ensures medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Performs registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
  • Maintains EMR files
  • Performs general front office functions as needed
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician
  • Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership
