About The Position

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time. Service Works diligently to meet every customer’s needs. Fully engaged, fully aware and available to help others while on duty Schedules surgery as directed by surgeons. Helps with precertification of surgeries and any other tests required prior to surgery. Schedules post operative appointments, anesthesia consults, and history and physical appointments as needed. Assists with scheduling of referrals, other tests and treatments. Screens telephone calls for referral to nurse or physician. May call in medication orders to pharmacy upon approval of physician. Liaison for patients for surgical appointments, required tests, insurance verification and all aspects needed to schedule a surgery. Assist providers in clinic Apply casts and splints as directed by providers Assist providers with procedures as directed Finance Accomplishes tasks with the minimum expenditure of time, materials and money with service as the guiding principle Works productively while on the clock and offers to help others when work is completed Growth Demonstrates the ability to positively and productively respond to change. Participates in continuous improvement, offering and or implementing methods to improve care and service Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. Participates in professional development activities and in-service education opportunities as available. Performs related work as required. Performs laboratory testing trained, determined to be competent, and supervised by MLT.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in a clinical environment, or graduation from an Associate Degree program for Medical Assistants.
Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgement, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times.
Actively functions as a patient advocate.
Must have thorough knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care.
Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
Skill in taking vital signs.
Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, co-workers and the public.
Ability to communicate clearly.
Must develop knowledge of current hospital emergency policies and procedures, fire, safety, disaster, and infection control policies.
Observe all patient privacy and confidentiality rules.
Document patient information accurately.
Observe universal precautions.
Maintain secure workstation to ensure protection of patient information.
Report any compliance violations.
