About The Position

ChristianaCare Outpatient Behavioral Health at Elkton is looking for a Medical Assistant I. Outpatient Behavioral Health at Elkton, located at 111 West High Street in Elkton, Maryland, provides compassionate, evidence‑based care for individuals facing a range of mental‑health challenges. Our multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, and counselors delivers personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs. We offer outpatient therapy, medication management, and coordinated support, with access to a full continuum of services through ChristianaCare Behavioral Health at Union Hospital. Patients can rely on our confidential, high‑quality care to help them build resilience, manage symptoms, and improve overall well-being. As a Medical Assistant I, you will assist physicians during the examination and treatment of patients, whether through virtual or on-site appointments. This role is crucial for delivering quality patient care and encompasses various clinical and clerical duties within the medical practice. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm No weekends or holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • A graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant Program or hold current Medical Assistant Certification by a national organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Responsibilities

  • Greeting and assisting patients both virtually and on-site
  • Rooming patients
  • Preparing them for visits by taking and recording vital signs
  • Performing point of care testing
  • Administering injections and medications
  • Conducting EKGs when needed
  • Support for clinicians during examinations and procedures
  • Preparing treatment rooms with essential supplies
  • Completing patient-specific paperwork
  • Ensuring that electronic medical records (EMR) are up to date with relevant test results for subsequent visits
  • Handling patient callbacks with information as directed by providers
  • Following state guidelines for the sterilization of medical equipment
  • Managing prior authorizations, referrals, and medication refills
  • Scheduling tests and surgeries
  • Performing quality control on point of care testing equipment
  • Offering documentation assistance during provider examinations and procedures
  • Undertaking clerical tasks as assigned by supervisors
  • Troubleshooting issues with video visits
  • Helping patients utilize ChristianaCare’s Patient Portal
  • Working safely, adhering to departmental safety rules, and promptly reporting any unsafe conditions or violations that could potentially harm patients, staff, or visitors
