About The Position

The University of Utah Department of Pediatrics is excited to announce an immediate opening for a Medical Assistant at our upcoming West High School ( WHS ) Clinic location. We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and hard-working individual who, in collaboration with the Medical Director and Nursing Supervisor of West High School Clinic, will provide medical assisting support to multiple specialties in an integrated multidisciplinary collaborative care clinic. The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in facilitating the efficient delivery of patient care, supporting the professional role of the licensed staff, and providing support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to pediatric patients. Additional responsibilities include clerical functions, data tracking and report completion. Requirements

• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
• The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures such as recording temperatures, pulse rate, pulse oximetry, blood pressure and responses to standardized medical history questions.
• Completes patient admission or registration process by reviewing accounts and other compliance-related documents for completeness and accuracy.
• Obtains and documents missing information required for completion of the registration.
• Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to a licensed staff member.
• Schedules patient appointments; contacts patients for rescheduling, missed appointments and appointment reminders.
• Performs Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments ( CLIA ) Waived Lab tests such as urine dip stick, Hgb, Hct, finger stick, glucose, hemoccults and reports results to the appropriate personnel.
• Performs specialty skills such as suture removal, straight catheterization and injections (IM, SQ and intradermal).
• Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested and assists with procedures.
• Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipment reporting outdated supplies and necessary equipment repairs.
• Answers telephones, forwards telephone messages and under the direction of licensed staff, schedules appointments, procedures and diagnostic tests.
• Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing of medical information in patient’s records, obtaining medical records from other providers and entering charges for billing purposes.
• Attends and completes mandatory in-services including electronic medical record, HIPPA , infection control, safety, CPR , equipment usage and procedures according to hospital and department policies.
• May apply leads and monitor for diagnostic procedures such as EKG and ultrasound scan under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
• May assist inpatient and family education by providing educational material and general health information to patients and family members.
