The Medical Assistant – HIV Specialist is a hands‑on clinical role supporting Erie’s HIV, PrEP, and Hepatitis C patients through direct care, counseling, education, and seamless coordination within the Lending Hands for Life program, ensuring every patient receives compassionate, comprehensive support. COMPETITIVE COMPENSATION: $20/hr.+ based on experience and with potential for merit increases. Registered MAs earn $1 more/hr. Shift differential: Additional $10/hr. for hours worked after 5:30 PM and weekends. $500 sign on bonus at 90 days, plus $1000 bonuses at 6 and 12 months! Requirements

  • CPR certification – must always be current
  • Bilingual (Spanish) fluency strongly preferred
  • Strong computer and data entry skills
  • Cultural competence to work in a low income, minority environment
  • Minimum one (1) year of Medical Assistant experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a clinical Medical Assistant program required.
  • Completion of 160 hours of a clinical Medical Assistant externship required OR Completion of BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing)

Responsibilities

  • Performs core clinical and administrative responsibilities to support providers, including completing the Erie Rooming Workflow, documenting vital signs, administering immunizations, assisting with exams and procedures, and conducting in‑scope laboratory tasks.
  • Prepares and maintains exam rooms by ensuring they are clean, organized, stocked, and equipped with properly functioning instruments; cleans and sterilizes medical equipment according to Erie standards.
  • Manages patient flow, scheduling, confirmation calls, medical records, and communication of health information to ensure efficient, patient‑centered clinic operations.
  • Participates in visit prep, huddles, ExemplErie tasks, interdisciplinary meetings, and annual competency requirements; cross‑trains across all Erie specialties and adheres to all clinical procedure standards.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments to support and maintain medication adherence for patients living with HIV; documents encounters, reviews charts, and coordinates care between visits by processing lab orders, refills, and patient communications.
  • Facilitates timely medication access, maintains LHL vaccine inventory, participates in case conferences and CQI initiatives, conducts rapid HIV testing and counseling, provides education on HIV treatment and prevention, and ensures accurate Epic documentation and outreach to retain patients in the LHL Program.
