About The Position

Texas Diabetes & Endocrinology, P.A. (TD&E) has grown over the years to meet the Endocrinology needs of the Austin community. Our mission is to strive to provide expert care in Diabetes, Thyroid problems, Osteoporosis, Weight management and hormonal conditions by providing thorough evaluations and innovative, personalized solutions focused on our patients’ success. Our employees are the strength that keeps us moving forward. Our Clinical Department is looking to hire a Medical Assistant-Floor for our Mopac office! Purpose: The Medical Assistant (Floor) is responsible for preparing patients to be seen by providers. Clinical duties include taking and recording patient vital signs and medical histories, performing diabetic foot exams, assisting providers with thyroid biopsies, and administering testosterone injections and other medications as directed by provider.

Requirements

  • 1 year of prior Medical Assistant experience

  • 2 years of prior experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credentials
  • prior Endocrinology and/or Diabetes experience.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all established floor Medical Assistant policies and procedures.
  • Rooms and interviews patients for medical history, prescription changes, and other updates. Records changes in demographic form.
  • Takes and records vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
  • Performs foot exams for diabetic patients.
  • Downloads patient insulin pump data for physicians.
  • Provides intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  • Assists doctors with biopsies including confirmation of facility, prepping biopsy, handing supplies and materials during procedure, cleaning, and sterilizing tools, and ensuring the specimen is sent to appropriate facility.
  • Charts notes in electronic medical records (EMR) system and corresponds with providers and coworkers via Taskman.
  • Cleans work station, workup area, and patient rooms using appropriate germicidal wipes/solution; stocks and restocks all necessary supplies; cleans out expired drugs from sample closet.
  • For new patients: prints and attaches medical records, collects and scans Review of Symptoms (ROS) and Health questionnaire.
  • Follows appropriate opening procedures including biopsy room prep.
  • Follows appropriate closing procedures include restocking, cleaning, shredding, and refilling paper. Also preps next day schedules and paperwork including chart covers, labs, etc. Contacts pathology lab for missing records as needed.
  • Occasionally assists with moving and lifting patients up to 50 pounds.
  • Acts as back up for scanning and mailing.
