About The Position

Beloit Health System is hiring a Medical Assistant to join Cardiology Clinic team located at Beloit Memorial Hospital in Beloit, WI. Shift: 1st Schedule: 8a-5p Hours per week: 40 hours per week Benefits Status: Benefits Eligible Department: Beloit Clinic Cardiology In this Medical Assistant position the Medical Assistant will assist the licensed health care professional in performing a variety of tasks including rooming patients, monitoring patient flow, returning phone messages, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, administering medications, assisting with diagnostic procedures and/or treatments, maintaining the patient's medical record, stocking rooms and assisting with medical emergencies. The Medical Assistant will assist with scheduling appointments, completing pre- certifications, completing patient forms - i.e. FMLA, short-term, long-term disability forms, etc. refilling medications per protocol, assisting with clinical duties, ordering supplies, and cleaning exam rooms. The Medical Assistant will: Prepare patient documentation and medical record in preparation for appointment. Escort patient to room, obtains vitals and updates medical record, which would include a brief medical history or chief complaint, current medication, allergies, smoking status, pain status, immunization status, and all meaningful use data collection. Prepare patient for examination or procedure. Ensure consent is signed and dated for procedures and performs "Time out" with Physician/LIP when appropriate. Assist Physician/LIP with examinations and/or procedures. Administer medications ordered by Physicians/LIP and update medical record after administering medication. Maintain and update accurate electronic medical record. Receive and handle telephone calls to department. Assist with triaging calls under the supervision of a licensed health care professional. Assist Physician/LIP with educating the patient and families. Demonstrate effectiveness and courtesy in scheduling patients for appointments. Ensure patient safety while handling, transporting and providing medications to patients; protects patients from various hazards, falls, disease exposure, etc. Review basic physical, psychological and social needs of patients and their families. Adhere to infection control policies. Demonstrate ability to navigate efficiently computer software applicable to department. Perform unit specific duties according to established unit-based competencies. Participate in quality assurance activities. Ensure appropriate supplies are on hand Assure timely completion of assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Certified or Registered as Medical Assistant at time of employment
  • Must be CPR certified within 3 months of hire
  • Strong critical thinking abilities
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication and counseling skills
  • Requires knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Ability to work independently and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Employee must possess the training, knowledge, and skills necessary to perform one or more of the following activities (evaluation, treatment, and/or patient care) for patients in one or more of the following age groups: pediatric, adolescent and geriatric
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous cardiac experience is a plus
  • Two years clinical experience in Internal Medicine or Family Practice is desirable
  • Preferred Experience with Electronic Medical Records and prior experience in Pediatrics.
