About The Position

A Medical Assistant Apprentice is responsible for learning the Medical Assistant trade at Intermountain Healthcare while attending a Medical Assistant Program. This position is full-time, 36 hours per week, and requires in-person classroom training as well as working in various clinics for the clinical rotations portion of the program. The program is 20-21 weeks long, starting on July 6th, 2026, and ending on November 27th. During the program, candidates will be in the classroom 2-3 days per week and in clinicals for 2-3 days per week. Attendance is essential, with a strict limit of no more than 2 consecutive days off and a maximum total of 5 days off during the program. Upon completion, Intermountain Healthcare will assist in finding permanent placement as a Medical Assistant within one of their clinics. A 2-year contract is required, with a repayment clause of $4,900.00 if the program is left or the contract is broken before the 2-year mark. As an apprentice, you will observe patient-oriented procedures under the direction and supervision of experienced medical professionals and have opportunities to practice these procedures with direct supervision. The role involves a wide variety of clinical and administrative tasks, allowing you to hone skills under 'safety net' conditions to prepare for a competent professional role. Apprentices are expected to maintain clear communication with their supervising team, provide feedback on areas of struggle, be engaged with guidance, and adhere to the company's Code of Conduct and guiding principles. Responsibilities

  • Learn the Medical Assistant trade at Intermountain Healthcare while attending a Medical Assistant Program.
  • Maintain clear lines of communication with the supervising team at IMH.
  • Observe patient-oriented procedures under the direction and supervision of Tier II or Tier III Medical Assistant, Practice Manager, clinician, RN, or LVN.
  • Practice patient-oriented procedures with direct supervision.
  • Review all areas of skills assessment improvement opportunities with the mentor.
  • Provide feedback to the Mentor on areas of struggle for additional coaching or practice scenarios.
  • Perform a wide variety of clinical and administrative tasks under the direction and guidance of experienced professionals.
  • Be engaged with any guidance given and follow the Code of Conduct.
  • Follow the guiding principles and values at IMH.
  • Possess aptitude for the Medical Assistant trade.
  • Perform essential read-only use and navigation of electronic medical records.
  • Ensure quality and continuous improvement within the job scope throughout all rotations.
  • Exhibit behavior and communication skills demonstrating IMH’s commitment to superior customer service.
  • Observe vital signs and other pertinent patient information while shadowing their mentor.
  • Perform all actions/responsibilities as described in company-controlled documentation for this position.
  • Contribute to and support the corporation's quality initiatives.
  • Use, protect, and disclose HCP patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Observe/view various procedures such as ear lavage, ECG, spirometry, injections, peak flows, pulse oximetry, breathing treatments, suture removals, wound dressings, vision/hearing tests, urine pregnancy tests, urine dips, blood glucose testing, and blood hemoglobin (hemocue) testing.
  • Assist clinicians with procedures that vary in levels of complexity.
  • Shadow mentee on patient on lab, radiology, and other procedure/testing preparations.
  • Observe in visit closure with patient and clinicians for next steps for lab, x-ray, referrals, DME, etc.
  • Inquire and be open-minded to learning the Medical Assistant trade throughout the organization.
  • Observe the handling and delivery of patient service recovery methods.
  • Participate regularly in skills aptitude training and evaluations.
  • Participate regularly in site staff and department meetings, huddles, etc.
  • Maintain and clean exam/treatment areas, specimen processing areas, and medical equipment with the support of the mentee.
  • Stock exam rooms, treatment/procedure rooms, specimen processing areas, and nursing stations with the support of the mentee.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement projects.
  • Escalate potential emergency situations to the appropriate level.
