About The Position

Under supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Hospital Assistant III assists in the delivery of care to patients in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery in the ambulatory group practices. Work includes a variety of personal care and clinical procedures including assuring positive care outcomes. S/he will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. S/he is required to learn and be able to assist in the Department of Otolarygnology, Head & Neck Surgery. S/he is required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center. This position makes a difference for patients in an outpatient care unit by providing excellent customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and departments to maximize unit efficiency. This Hospital Assistant III functions in the outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, joint UCSF health partnerships, Satellite Clinics, or with UCSF Faculty at other off-site clinic sites, et al). The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $32.86 - $41.01 (Hourly Rate). Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Current American Heart Association CPR Certification Minimum of 1 year of recent experience working in a busy health care environment. Familiarity with insurance verification and authorizations Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time, with no restrictions for keyboarding. Strong computer skills, including basic keyboarding skills, and experience and ability to work effectively in Word and Excel. Ability to prioritize and work efficiently with multiple forms of patient & provider communication including email, fax and phone system. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal skills. Excellent interpersonal skills Strong writing skills to include the ability to compose basic office communications. Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with patients. Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with team physicians and referring physicians Previous experience using and documenting in APeX (or EPIC system). Bilingual or multi-lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian) strongly preferred. Experience with insurance authorizations and interacting with retail pharmacies to refill medications. Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum one year of experience as a Medical Assistant/Hospital Assistant in Ambulatory Otolaryngology. Minimum one year of experience working with endoscopy towers and precleaning of flexible and rigid scopes. Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Current American Heart Association CPR Certification. Superior customer service and interpersonal skills. Previous experience using and documenting within an Electronic Medical Record.
