About The Position

The purpose of the role is to lead the development and deployment, and continuous evolution of non-therapeutic Medical Affairs skills for the current and next generation of Pfizer Medical Affairs colleagues. This includes overseeing both the core curriculum and leadership/coaching development programs that equips colleagues with the capabilities to excel in their roles and shape the future of Medical Affairs. As a core member of the Medical Academy Leadership Team, the incumbent will manage a team of regional Medical Affairs Skills Directors and the associated budget. The role requires close collaboration with senior leaders across Pfizer Medical Affairs, fostering peer-to-peer relationships to ensure alignment and impact. The position has a broad impact throughout the organization and requires a medical professional with a passion for learning & development, strategic thinking skills, leadership ability, and an understanding of the evolving role of medical affairs within and outside of Pfizer.

Requirements

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years OR master’s degree with 10+ years OR equivalent terminal doctoral degree and 7+ years of pharmaceutical industry or clinical experience required
  • Very strong communication and relationship-building capacity
  • Strong strategic mindset, understanding of medical affairs, and technology
  • Demonstration of leading large learning initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Strategic thinking: Develop and execute the strategic vision of the Medical Affairs Skills Development Team, aligned with the broader objectives of the Medical Academy Team and the MEI Team
  • Leveraging expertise: To act as a single point of contact between the Medical Skills Development Team and the regional Medical Affairs leadership in all BUs. To critically evaluate and continuously improve the communication networks between Global medical teams, L&D and the Field Medical colleagues to ensure efficient and timely transmission of essential information.
  • Drive innovation: Lead efforts to drive innovation in learning and development through the implementation of new technologies, approaches, and learning modalities. To identify and disseminate best practices and initiatives globally, and across BUs.
  • Driving operational excellence: The Medical Affairs Academy Skills Development Lead will co-own the overall strategic competency and capability-building framework, while owning the development of a comprehensive skills training curriculum across the Medical Affairs organization
  • Accountable for effective and efficient skills onboarding of new colleagues
  • Accountable for the design and delivery of advanced training related to coaching, leadership, , stakeholder strategy, scientific exchange, insight generation, and medical landscape.
  • Responsible for facilitating other training for colleague development based on unmet needs
  • Ensure compliance of the CFM and HQ roles with all regional and Pfizer regulatory standards
  • Ensuring that day-to-day operations of the team are conducted with excellence and that processes are optimized for efficiency, quality, and effectiveness.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to improve the learning experience for the learners.
  • Develop standardized metrics/outcomes for measuring and improving knowledge and capabilities
  • Accountable for people manager training related to effective coaching of CFM
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement: Developing a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team, encouraging team members to share ideas, feedback, and insights to drive learning program design and delivery. To actively promote continuous improvement in Pfizer Medical Affairs through overseeing capabilities improvement.
  • Stakeholder Management and collaboration: Collaborating with key stakeholders across the organization, such as the Regional Medical Affairs Leadership, L&D, broader Medical Academy Team, and other relevant teams to ensure alignment and integration of learning program design and delivery.
  • Managing resources effectively: Ensuring that resources, including budget, technology, and team, are managed effectively to support the goals and objectives of the team.
