About The Position

The ITS Media Services Central Engineering and Media Production teams are seeking a motivated Student Engineer with a strong interest in audio-visual systems, media production technologies, and engineering workflows. This position offers hands-on experience supporting the OEC Multimedia Studio, university-wide media production systems, and a variety of academic and high-profile event productions. The Student Engineer will assist professional engineers and technicians in maintaining, configuring, and supporting studio and production environments across campus. This role is ideal for students passionate about emerging AV technologies, system design, networking, and live media production. You will support studio productions, troubleshoot equipment, help integrate new technologies, and contribute to full-cycle media production workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with broadcast media production technologies (from high school or college /university)
  • Understand system design strategies, signal flow, and media production best practices
  • Experience with network troubleshooting, VLANs, and LAN/WAN environments

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with instructors, clients, and production teams to record, edit, and produce content in university studios
  • Work with the Sr. Academic Media Producer and STELAR media production team on video projects
  • Manage post-production workflows (editing) for assigned projects, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables
  • Be available during assigned shifts to support instructors, student groups, and university productions
  • Configure studio equipment to meet production requirements
  • Occasionally serve as the operating engineer for studio productions
  • Support daily operation of the OEC Multimedia Studio
  • Troubleshoot issues with video routing, cabling, lighting, audio devices, and streaming/recording systems
  • Perform on-the-spot break/fix repairs to keep productions running smoothly
  • Maintain familiarity with professional studio production equipment
  • Alongside Student Production Engineer, explore and experiment with new live broadcast production and recording technologies
  • Contribute to testing and adopting emerging technologies into existing infrastructure
  • Work collaboratively with Media Services Central Engineering staff
