Job Summary We are looking for a highly motivated Media and Buffer Prep Specialist to provide critical, on-site, biology support as part of a dynamic PerkinElmer lab service team. The role is mainly responsible for media and buffer preparations as requested by our pharmaceutical customer. Other general lab responsibilities will also be required, all of which require high level of attention to detail in order to provide a quality service.

  • Prepare high quality media, buffer, and reagents according to a regularly occurring schedule as well as special requests.
  • Follow SOPs, protocols, and other guidelines as it relates to the preparation of reagents and buffers
  • Quality control testing of these materials to ensure products are free of contaminations and are formulated appropriately
  • Maintain relevant lab supplies and materials by performing purchasing of raw materials and managing inventory.
  • Write, maintain, and troubleshoot experimental protocols.
  • Analyze, synthesize, and communicate data to both technical and non-technical colleagues and collaborators.
  • Be able to interact with colleagues in other functions and department to solve technical problems.
  • General laboratory tasks, including maintenance of equipment, stocking of consumables, glass washing, and overall lab upkeep.
  • Demonstrated technical skills required: balance usage, pH meters, liquid-transfer devices
  • Must have sufficient math skills to calculate Mass/Molarity, concentrations, and dilutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or other scientific discipline is preferred or relevant experience OR Associate’s degree in chemistry or other scientific discipline and 2+ years’ experience performing relevant responsibilities
  • Must understand the basic chemistry of buffer preparation including titrations and reactions
  • Must be familiar with MS Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move inside and outside labs
  • Frequently operate on instruments, objects, tools or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching and reaching in order to perform in a service function.
  • Regularly move or lift up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the instrument/equipment), distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus in order to perform the essential service functions of this position.
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory.
  • Exposure to hazards such as blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals/compounds, and/or flammable substances.
  • Working Environment Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
  • Employee maybe required to manage hazardous wastes in compliance with company procedures & State/Federal/Local hazardous waste regulations. Duties may include: Identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, labeling.
  • Ensure safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of the daily activities, and any potential safety hazards are addressed and corrected immediately.
  • Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment.
  • Mammalian cell culture experience preferred
