About The Position

Scope The Medical Surgical Manager oversees the daily operations of the medical-surgical unit, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient resource utilization. This role is responsible for managing staff performance, fostering professional development, and maintaining a safe and patient-centered environment. Expected Results: Delivery of exceptional patient care aligned with organizational standards. Achievement of departmental goals, including budget adherence, staff competency, and quality metrics. Positive patient and staff satisfaction scores through effective leadership and communication. Degree Operates with significant autonomy in managing unit operations, staffing, and workflow decisions within established organizational policies and strategic objectives. Collaborates with senior leadership for strategic planning and escalates issues requiring executive input.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed in the state of Wisconsin as a Registered Nurse in good standing
  • Current BLS certification
  • Previous experience working within a hospital environment
  • Meets OMC health requirements
  • In-depth understanding of medical-surgical nursing practices and standards.
  • Knowledge of hospital policies, regulatory requirements (e.g., DNV), and patient safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation in a healthcare setting.
  • Understanding of performance improvement methodologies and quality metrics.
  • Knowledge of human resource principles, including recruitment, retention, and staff development.
  • Awareness of healthcare technology and electronic health record systems.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills to motivate and guide staff.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) for interacting with staff, patients, and leadership.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for managing complex clinical and operational issues.
  • Organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills to maintain positive work relationships.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting for quality improvement and budget monitoring.
  • Ability to make autonomous decisions within organizational policies and strategic objectives.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
