About The Position

This position is responsible for ordering stock and non-stock supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for all critical and med-surg departments across all three campuses. The role involves negotiating with vendors to secure the best prices for products and services, utilizing GPO and local contracts. A key aspect is analyzing inventory data to minimize freight costs and maintain optimal par levels. The Med Surg Buyer also handles setting up new vendors for electronic data interchange (EDI), adding new items to the item dictionary/formulary with proper approvals, and managing product and packaging changes. Freeman Health System is a locally owned, not-for-profit health system in Joplin, Missouri, comprising a 460-bed, three-hospital system that provides comprehensive healthcare services to a wide area across Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. It includes Freeman Hospital West, Freeman Hospital East, Freeman Neosho Hospital, Ozark Center, two urgent care clinics, numerous physician clinics, and various specialty services.

Responsibilities

  • Ordering stock and non-stock supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for all critical and med-surg departments for all three campuses.
  • Negotiating with vendors on best price for products and services using GPO and local contracts.
  • Analyzing inventory data to minimize freight cost and maintain par levels.
  • Maintaining specific inventories, collecting and analyzing data to maintain inventories at planned levels, minimizing freight cost and eliminating customer dissatisfaction.
  • Researching internet and other sources for best buys and product information.
  • Setting up new vendors to electronic data interchange (EDI).
  • Adding new items to the item dictionary/formulary and ensuring they are approved through SURP if applicable, correct EOC is applied, and procedure code is applied from CS.
  • Placing orders to restock inventories for West, East, and Neosho Central Supply.
  • Maintaining the inventory in Stores (Meditech dictionaries), and routine reconciliation of physical inventory counts to Meditech counts.
  • Managing conversations when product changes and/or when packaging changes.
