About The Position

The MED-Pharm Tech plays a critical role in supporting pharmaceutical operations within healthcare settings across Prince Georges and Montgomery County, MD. This position is part-time, providing primary coverage at or Gaithersburg and/or Greenbelt clinics; may also provide PRN coverage as where/when needed. The incumbent is responsible for accurately preparing, dispensing, and managing medications in compliance with regulatory standards to ensure patient safety and effective treatment outcomes. The role involves collaborating closely with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and patients to facilitate seamless medication distribution and provide essential pharmaceutical information. Additionally, the MED-Pharm Tech contributes to inventory management, quality control, and documentation processes to maintain operational efficiency. Ultimately, this position ensures that pharmaceutical services are delivered with precision, professionalism, and adherence to all applicable laws and guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from a recognized certifying body such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, medication names, and dosage forms.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy laws, regulations, and safety standards applicable in the United States.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a pharmacy technician in a hospital, retail, or clinical setting.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Additional certifications or training in sterile compounding or chemotherapy preparation.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense prescription medications accurately under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Maintain and manage pharmaceutical inventory, including ordering, stocking, and proper storage of medications.
  • Assist pharmacists in compounding medications and preparing intravenous admixtures as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to pharmacy operations and medication handling.
  • Provide excellent customer service by answering patient inquiries and communicating medication instructions clearly.
  • Document all pharmaceutical activities meticulously to support audits and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in quality assurance and safety programs to uphold high standards of pharmaceutical care.
