Product Test Technician, Product Assurance – Colorado Springs, Colorado Allegion is looking for a passionate Mechanical Test Technician to work as part of a highly engaged small team within a global organization of 12,000+ employees, representing 30+ brands (including Schlage, Von Duprin and LCN) focused on safety, security and access management. You’ll work on solutions that will enable seamless access and help keep you and your loved ones safe and secure where they work, live and thrive. Requirements

  • Percentage of Travel: 0 - 5%
  • Years of Experience: 1 - 3
  • Preferred Education: 2-year technical degree in an electro-mechanical related field. Alternatively, high school diploma plus 5 years of relevant experience in a technical role, including experience performing product testing.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electromechanical mechanisms
  • Knowledge of different types of machinery, such as pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical machines
  • Ability to program or learn to program Programmable Logical Controllers (PLCs) and use pneumatic controls to exercise engineering prototype sub-assemblies
  • Ability to comfortably work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be detail-oriented and make precise adjustments to testing equipment
  • Ability to follow basic installation instructions and test methods
  • Ability to use electronic and mechanical measurement equipment
  • Ability to assemble prototype devices, jigs, and other test fixtures
  • Competence with use of standard hand and power tools
  • Competence with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including ability to author test reports
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs., move objects weighing 100 lbs., use a step ladder, bending, twisting and getting up and down
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Safety glasses, safety shoes, earplugs, goggles, gloves, or other PPE is required in certain areas

Nice To Haves

  • Some limited knowledge of product lines
  • Experience with laboratory or product testing
  • Experience with architectural door hardware, including exposure to BHMA and UL standards
  • Experience with data acquisition systems (DAQ), HMI integration and writing PLC programs
  • Experience with using calibrated tools and equipment

Responsibilities

  • Precisely perform mechanical, electrical, and environmental tests on door hardware & access control products based on test plans, applicable standards, and customer requirements.
  • Set-up test equipment according to test requests and test methods
  • Competently perform product tests, adhering to all safety requirements and operational procedures
  • Document and communicate test results in formal written test reports
  • Deliver results on time according to provided priorities and schedules
  • Perform maintenance, 5S housekeeping, and upkeep of laboratory machines, fixtures, instruments, and facilities
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, as directed
  • Communicate effectively, taking direction from Lab Manager and Test Engineers while having limited contact with internal customers from Product Engineering
  • Work well in a team structure
