The Mechanical Superintendent oversees field operations on assigned projects to ensure their safe, timely, and profitable completion. This role involves planning, organizing, and supervising specific portions of construction work within designated project areas. The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for the scheduling of mechanical-related activities and maintaining job progress, thereby maximizing efficiencies.

  • Oversee project work activities including piping, rotating and stationary equipment, structural steel, rigging, welding, insulation and heat tracing, hydrostatic testing, non-destructive examination techniques, fire protection, and coatings.
  • Supervise overall construction efforts including safety, productivity, efficient use of materials and equipment, materials management, scheduling, engineering, and contractual performance.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with contracts related to mechanical construction activities.
  • Build effective client and subcontractor relationships; interface with client representatives, A/E representatives, and other contractors.
  • Collaborate with project management to develop and implement project procedures, documents, and standards.
  • Authorize purchase requisitions and field design change requests under supervision.
  • Ensure overall project safety and regularly review site-specific safety documentation.
  • Complete daily field reports and document construction progress with photos.
  • Utilize subcontractors' 3-week look-ahead reports to assess future work activities and identify concerns.
  • Develop as-built drawings and answer RFIs with support from Assistant Project Manager or Field Engineer.
  • Direct and manage subcontractors to comply with the project schedule and track progress.
  • Verify material deliveries meet specifications and are stored properly.
  • Coordinate with the QA/QC Manager to ensure all welders are qualified.
  • Witness equipment setting and alignment.
  • Perform walk-downs of systems during hydrostatic testing to ensure compliance and sign off on completed testing.
  • Develop punch lists for items out of compliance or not completed.
  • Ensure current drawing revisions are used in the field.
  • Understand and execute project scope and manage any changes that occur, including field change orders.
  • Oversee craft supervision and project staffing as needed.
  • Provide oversight of project site material and tool management.
  • Supervise daily construction activities, subcontractor direction, and code/specification compliance.
  • Read, interpret, and understand isometric, structural, and P&ID drawings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.
  • 7 years of construction management or craft supervision experience on mechanical projects with a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 9 years of construction management or craft supervision experience on mechanical projects without a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 11 years of construction management or craft supervision experience on mechanical projects with a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong safety experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to meet company's driving requirements.
  • Experience in mechanical, construction, industrial construction, heavy industrial construction, piping, and millwright.
