About The Position

As a Mechanical Simulation Engineer, you will join an international team of experts developing leading edge mechanical technologies and solutions for the industry’s most demanding HDD products. As part of a cross functional team, you will be working within a broad collection of engineering disciplines all focused on delivering exceptional products. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Simulation of complex HDD servo-mechanical systems using various finite element analysis methods, including statics, dynamics, electromagnetics, vibro-acoustic and computational fluid dynamics. Perform correlation experiments to validate simulation results. Partner with mechanical and servo design engineers to optimized designs and recommend novel solutions to achieve demanding product requirements. Working with internal manufacturing teams, perform various analysis to ensure robust, high volume manufacturing tooling and processes. This position is part of our Early Career program at WD. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrated analysis skills through industrial experience and/or academic projects.
  • Proficient using mechanical analysis & design tools (e.g. ANSYS, Hyperworks, Matlab, SolidWorks).
  • Fundamental knowledge of dynamics and vibration control, testing & associated data analysis.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience using Laser Doppler Vibrometers, Fourier analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Working knowledge of machine learning a plus.
  • Ideal candidate will have strong academic credentials combined with relevant work experience performing finite element analysis of complex structures and systems.
