The Mechanical Service Specialist performs skilled mechanical tasks including inspection, disassembly, repair, overhaul, and assembly of industrial gearboxes and related components. The ideal need for this position is to maintain a work mix of shop-based work (approximately 75%) along with periodic travel (approximately 25%) to customer sites to support installation, troubleshooting, and repair activities. The technician is expected to maintain high quality standards, follow all safety procedures, and present a professional image while representing AGS.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, lift, push, and pull for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements for up to 12 hours.
  • Comfortable working in both shop and industrial field environments.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of mechanical assembly experience (gearbox experience preferred).
  • Working knowledge of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and thoroughly while maintaining safety as a priority.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to customer sites.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, inspect, clean, and rebuild gearboxes and component parts for refurbishment and assembly.
  • Assemble gearboxes/products according to blueprints, engineering drawings, bills of materials, inspection reports, and written procedures.
  • Utilize precision measuring tools including micrometers, depth mics, and other inspection instruments.
  • Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Rework and/or repair assembled equipment according to engineering specifications.
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure products meet established standards.
  • Operate overhead crane and forklift safely.
  • Use hand-held power tools, precision tools, and manual tools.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area per 5S practices.
  • Perform work in accordance with established safety procedures and company quality standards.
  • Work in a team environment to accomplish shop goals.
  • Travel to customer sites to assist with installation, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of gearbox.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose gearbox system failures.
  • Inspect equipment and create customer condition reports.
  • Communicate professionally with customers during repairs.
  • Prepare accurate service documentation for customer signature upon completion.
  • Perform lock-out/tag-out procedures prior to servicing equipment.
  • Comply with all company and customer site safety policies.
  • Maintain required safety certifications and PPE in good condition.
