Inside the Role Daimler Truck North America is the market leader and thrives as the voice of the trucking industry. In the Detroit Powertrain Test Center, we are driving the powertrain validation for our global Daimler Truck brand including conventional diesel and electric powertrain components. In this position you will be accountable for supporting and executing tests on our engine systems in the durability testing laboratory environment. This includes achieving testing utilization targets through existing workflows to meet or exceed key performance indicator (KPI) goals and maintain test schedules to meet engineering customers commitments and deliverables. This person will support developing procedures to ensure that engine system setup and testing is conducted according to established engineering standards. This person will interface directly with engineering group supervisors, product/calibration engineers, technicians, and test center support staff to communicate and develop test instructions, procedures, troubleshoot issues, and leverage continuous improvement initiatives to support engine system durability testing to achieve test center monthly KPI goals. This person will work regularly with cross-functional engineering groups to accurately capture testing requirements, analyze data, and communicate test results. Also, this person will participate in test center innovation projects focusing on safety, productivity, developing workflow connectivity, and standardizing test center automation processes. We Take Care of Our Team Position offers a starting salary range of $74,000 – $94,000 USD Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience. What You Drive at DTNA Durability engine systems test related topics that support the development, validation and launch of conventional powertrains. Assist in producing thorough, accurate engine systems durability test data to meet engineering customer and regulatory standards/requirements. Ensure task alignment with engineering mechanics program projects, timelines, and deliverables. Evaluates, and recommends investments in technology, equipment, systems, or other assets that will enhance the test center’s performance. Reduce downtime by utilizing problem solving skills and tracking common component or engine system failures. Develop, implement, maintain standard work Instructions & automation processes to optimize efficiencies with engine systems durability testing. Maintain daily alignment with technician group supervisor, mechanics group engineers, and applicable test center support staff to ensure operational effectiveness on durability test stands test assets. Help troubleshoot operational and/or data quality issues related to the test stand setup, engine system, dynamometer controls. This includes effective follow-up and reporting to confirm issues are resolved. Make support request to the appropriate workgroup supervisor and follow up with workgroup supervisor to ensure assignments are completed to minimize testing downtime. Ensure best practices are utilized and adhere to all DTNA policies and collective bargaining agreements. Ensure safety procedures and 5S principles are maintained in accordance with company policy. Knowledge You Should Bring Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related fields (ABET Accredited University). Minimum 0-2 years of relevant testing experience required. Basic technical knowledge of internal combustion engine (ICE) systems. Basic technical knowledge of ICE with aftertreatment system (ATS). Basic technical knowledge of ICE + ATS communication module interfaces. Proficient in technical reports and written procedures. Experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems. Ability to work in an environment with different cultures to collaborate successfully, including union & salary employees. Good communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Strong PC skills including MS Office and database tools. Good mechanical aptitude and be able to work across various engineering disciplines. Exceptional Candidates Might Have Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related fields (ABET Accredited University). Advance technical knowledge of internal combustion and electric mobility powertrain electronics and systems from a product and/or testing perspective.
