About The Position

Wake up in Saint Joseph, MI and start your day solving real-world engineering problems that move the world. As a Product Engineer at Colson Group, you will guide products from concept through release, connecting customer needs with practical design, robust analysis, and disciplined documentation. You report to the Product Engineering Manager or designee and thrive in a matrix environment where Sales, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and customers all depend on your clarity and follow-through. What your day looks like Meet with customers to translate requirements into clear specifications and collaborate with cross-functional partners on new or modified products. Shape proposals for customers and Colson Group leadership, including analyses, drawings, concepts, and cost estimates. Own engineering project execution: plan, track, and drive deliverables to meet scope, schedule, and quality targets. Lead and coordinate reviews of designs, drawings, and analyses; track risks and report technical status to management. Perform core engineering work: FMEAs, FEA, tolerance/design reviews, and documentation control. Author test plans, participate hands-on in testing, interpret results, summarize findings, and implement improvements. Respond to customer and supplier questions by phone, email, or onsite visits. Support prototype and concept builds on the floor—assembly, welding, fixtures, and functional tests as needed. Establish, maintain, and enforce Product Engineering standards across the lifecycle. Pitch in on related projects and assignments that keep our commitments on track.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline (required).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • At least 2 years of experience with SolidWorks (or comparable CAD) and associated design procedures.
  • 2+ years working with ergonomics, material handling, caster design, metal fabrication, injection-molded plastics, cast polyurethane, or equivalent domains.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical rigor, and collaborative interpersonal style.

Nice To Haves

  • Training in CAD/FEA/product development (preferred).
