About The Position

The Weitz Company is hiring a Mechanical Preconstruction Manager to join our growing team! The Mechanical Preconstruction Manager is responsible for providing outstanding customer service and setting up medium-size to large, complex projects for success through delivery of preconstruction services. Value should be provided to customers by leading the project team, predicting cost and schedule, advocating for owners, and seamlessly transitioning preconstruction services to the operations team. This role will also provide oversight and leadership to team members. This role can be based out of any Weitz office locations including: Des Moines, IA Denver, CO Phoenix, AZ West Palm Beach, FL The Weitz Company has been Building a Better Way since 1855. Requirements

  • 4+ years of extensive estimating and/or project management construction experience required
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience leading others while providing opportunities for growth, development, and mentorship
  • Excellent leadership skills with a desire to mentor, coach, and develop a team
  • Ability to balance and prioritize projects with impending deadlines
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, and highly organized
  • Strong negotiation skills,
  • Solid construction knowledge and estimating skills
  • Comfortable presenting
  • Ability to resolve conflict and come up with solutions
  • High level of professionalism and tact
  • Strong business acumen and relationship building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Solid systems experience with On-Screen takeoff, Win Est, SureTrak, Prolog, BIM, and JDE is preferred for this role.
  • Training will be provided on company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accuracy of all estimating, scheduling, strategy, and communication throughout preconstruction process
  • Review all estimates for accuracy, detail, and expectations
  • Review weekly preconstruction process to ensure progress is on schedule; initiate changes to remain on schedule; advise leadership of issues that may pose a cost or schedule impact
  • Coordinate building systems and schedules with Operations to plan and budget for safety on each project
  • Make decisions in a timely manner; understand when to involve upper management in decisions; assess level of risk and the consequences associated
  • Collaborate with operations, business development, preconstruction, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are turned over for success with the expected level of profitability
  • Understand the clients' needs to manage the process efficiently, ensure timely completion, understand local logistics/subcontractor and supplier market, and how BIM/LEED/LEAN can be best utilized
  • Lead preconstruction meetings when needed
