Role Overview We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer with specialized experience in piping system design and process engineering to join our team and support the development of engineering and construction packages for facility expansion and buildouts. The role will be the primary lead on piping system design and specification, including inline components. The role will also be regularly involved with equipment design/specification/procurement, contractor and vender management, drawing review/creation/updates, and file management. This person will report to Nexus Circular’s Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years’ recent experience with piping design and specification (hydraulic and flow analysis, stress analysis, loading/supporting)
  • 10+ years’ recent experience with fixed equipment and/or rotating equipment design and specification
  • 10+ years’ recent experience with API standards related to pumps, tanks, vessels, and piping (API 510, 570, 650, 653)
  • 2+ years of recent experience with the following or with equivalent variants of: AutoDesk 2D and 3D modeling, isometric drawing creation (Plant 3D), pipe stress analysis (CEARSAR II), Microsoft 365 Suite, PDF Editors (Adobe/BlueBeam)
  • Recent experience designing chemical process operations in manufacturing or petrochem

Responsibilities

  • Design and specify piping systems between unit operations, including completion of engineering reviews like flow & stress analysis and code compliance
  • Specify process equipment including pumps, tanks, vessels, piping system components, and related items
  • Review and approve vendor/contractor calculations and other work output
  • Make recommendations on other equipment as necessary based on relevant codes and standards (API, ANSI, OSHA, etc…)
  • Assist the Maintenance/Operations teams in documentation or creation of different procedures and inspection plans for pumps, tanks, vessels, piping systems, and other items
  • Ensure designs and details are safe for field erection and use, with constructability in mind
  • Participate in the review of Management of Changes (MoC), PHA Action Requests, Construction Information Requests, field RFIs, and Change Order Requests
  • Lead equipment vendor qualification process for new contractors and venders
  • Assist with local, state, and federal permitting applications
  • Other engineering tasks that the mechanical engineering team holds responsibility for, filling in on priorities when resources require, per skill set and availability match
  • Possible travel to other Nexus locations as required (:10%)
