About The Position

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Model-Based Definition (MBD) Intern to support our engineering and digital manufacturing initiatives. This internship offers hands-on experience working with 3D CAD models that serve as the authoritative source of product definition, including geometry, dimensions, tolerances, and annotations. The intern will collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to help advance our MBD practices. This is a remote role.

Requirements

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
• U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62.

• Pursuing a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematical (STEM) degree.

Responsibilities

• You will assist in creating MBD 3D CAD models using industry-standard tools (e.g., CATIA, Creo, NX, SolidWorks).
• You will apply GD&T and PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) directly to 3D models per ASME Y14.41 and Y14.5 standards.
• You will support the conversion of 2D drawings to 3D model-based files.
• You will collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure models meet downstream requirements.
• You will help document MBD workflows, best practices, and standards.
• You will assist with data management in PLM systems.
