As a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer at Pittsfield, Massachusetts, you’ll be a member of a highly motivated cross functional team responsible for overcoming daily production challenges and continuously delivering on commitments. In this position, the Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer will develop strong communications with internal teams to estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. At GDMS, we continually seek ways to develop and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing our team’s knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

  • Generate assembly, test, and inspection instructions for manufacturing and repair processes
  • Perform root cause analysis on nonconforming material and develop detailed instruction for rework
  • Develop and enhance assembly aids to improve product quality, product consistency, and reduce build times
  • Read and comprehend both electrical schematics and mechanical drawings as well as possessing working knowledge of manufacturing principles, tooling, equipment, and materials
  • Manage time throughout the day between working directly on the manufacturing floor and working in an office environment
  • Communicate effectively across multiple departments of the company (assemblers, testers, inspectors, material planners, quality, project leads, shop floor supervisors, design engineering, etc.)
  • Implement operational improvement processes to improve product quality, consistency, and/or reduce production time
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field.
  • Also requires 2+ years of job-related experience or a Master's degree and 6 months of job-related experience.
  • CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable amount of time after hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, a related specialized area or field, or equivalent experience
  • Clear understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Clear understanding with manufacturing processes and electrical/mechanical components, systems and applications
  • Agile experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and drawings
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods, as well as technical, government, and industry standards
