About The Position

The Mechanical Test Technician supports product validation and development by performing mechanical and hydraulic testing in a laboratory environment. This role involves hands-on fabrication of test fixtures, setup and operation of hydraulic systems, and preparation and installation of test samples. The technician works closely with engineering teams to ensure accurate, repeatable, and safe testing procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • 3 years of experience in hydraulic systems testing, mechanical systems, or lab technician roles
  • Familiarity with hydraulic components such as valves, pumps, actuators, and power units
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering schematics, mechanical/electrical diagrams, and blueprints
  • Experience with loadcells, LVDTs, dial indicators, basic lab instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Basic knowledge of welding, lathes, milling machines, drill press, and assembly tools
  • Moog / MTS controls test sequence writing and tuning
  • Working knowledge of vehicle systems
  • Comfortable using computer systems for data entry and test documentation
  • Must be able to work off shifts

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in mechanical or industrial technology is preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Must provide basic hand tools
  • Comfortable working around pressurized systems.
  • Chassis Suspension knowledge a plus.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and collaborate in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and install mechanical and hydraulic test setups according to engineering specifications.
  • Configure and operate test rigs, including hydraulic power units, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Monitor test parameters and ensure compliance with test protocols.
  • Install test samples, record and monitor test stands
  • Fabricate custom test fixtures using machining, welding, and hand tools.
  • Interpret technical drawings and CAD models to build fixtures that meet dimensional and functional requirements.
  • Modify and maintain fixtures to support evolving test needs.
  • Connect and troubleshoot hydraulic circuits including pumps, valves, hoses, and actuators.
  • Perform fluid checks, pressure testing, and leak detection.
  • Maintain cleanliness and integrity of hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Follow safety protocols and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Record test setups, observations, and results accurately.
  • Communicate findings and issues to engineers and quality teams.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions for test failures.
