About The Position

Through the years and continuing through today, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America Corrugating Machinery Division (CMD) serves the growing, dynamic packaging industry with leading edge equipment systems, sales, parts, technical and field support, making it one of the most respected suppliers to converters in North and Central America. The Mechanical Field Service Engineer, Apprentice supports the Field Service team by assisting with the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of corrugating and/or box-making machinery. This hands-on role is designed to build technical capability in mechanical systems, hydraulic components, and industrial equipment operation. Working directly under experienced Field Service Engineers, the apprentice will gain practical experience in diagnosing mechanical issues, performing component repairs, reading technical drawings, and supporting on-site equipment installations. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to learning in fast-paced, customer-facing industrial environments. The apprentice will participate in structured training, field assignments, and continuous skill development while contributing to safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on mechanical experience, such as Diesel Mechanic, Automotive Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Technician, or similar position
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and industrial equipment.
  • Experience with basic mechanical troubleshooting, fluid systems, and equipment repair.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced professionals.
  • Commitment to safe work practices.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability in dynamic environments Basic mechanical and electrical understanding.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in mechanical assembly and repair tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school, vocational training, or military training in mechanical, automotive, diesel, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • ASE certifications or equivalent mechanical certifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist Field Service Engineers in responding to customer support requests.
  • Observe and practice diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in corrugating and box-making machines.
  • Support disassembly, inspection, and repair processes under supervision.
  • Train alongside experienced technicians to interpret prints, specifications, manuals, and work orders.
  • Participate in the setup and installation of new equipment, including coordination with riggers and millwrights.
  • Learn to install electrical and hydraulic connections, perform leveling and alignment checks, and verify machine operation.
  • Shadow technicians during operator training sessions to understand machine functionality and maintenance procedures; assist with supervised training activities.
  • Assist in documenting service activities, including photos and detailed descriptions of work performed.
  • Report equipment issues, material needs, or safety concerns to supervising technicians or management.
  • Engage in structured learning activities, including technical training modules and performance evaluations.
  • Support operations as needed to maintain workflow and meet schedules and quality standards.
  • Arrange travel for assigned customer site visits, including flight, lodging, and rental car reservations, in accordance with company policy. Prepare and submit documentation for invoicing and expenses per established procedures
