About The Position

Woolpert is hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineering Team Leader to join our dynamic team. This position would be aligned with our office in Coral Gables, FL and would support full-time in-person or hybrid working arrangements. This position reports to the Buildings Engineering Discipline Leader and is responsible for leading engineering projects and teams, supporting strategic and KPI goals, contributing to proposals, overseeing project scope, schedule, and fee, and ensuring effective resources are assigned to projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage teams and multiple tasks simultaneously. This role includes performing mechanical engineering technical work on complex projects, mentoring staff, applying proficiency in designing, analyzing, and reviewing MEP/FP systems to ensure safety, sustainability, and compliance with industry standards; directing plan production and technical staff, reviewing design calculations, promoting the growth of the team, and assisting teams with a variety of engineering projects. Requirements

  • BA/BS or MA/MS in related field and fifteen (15) years related experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience leading engineering projects.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Expert verbal and written communication abilities for both internal and external relationships.
  • Experience with discipline related software applications and calculation tools.
  • Substantial experience designing in Autodesk Revit 3-D modeling software and directing the preparation of construction documents.
  • Experience conducting and leading QAQC and coordination of design documents between disciplines.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents including scientific and technical journals, handbooks, and industry information.
  • Willing to travel to project sites or offices, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with building HVAC system design for commercial, mixed-use, aviation, hospitality, and/or high-rise preferred.
  • Experience designing sustainable building systems, including familiarity with LEED, Green Building Institute, or other sustainability credentialing.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical HVAC engineering technical work for complex projects.
  • Track project progress, including scope, schedule, and fee.
  • Develop and modify models, plans, details, and drawings of mechanical and plumbing engineering systems and components according to established standards and modeling techniques.
  • In depth knowledge for team guidance of energy modeling, load calculations, and LCCA analysis using modeling software and techniques.
  • In depth knowledge for team guidance of mechanical design for various systems including plant design, fuel piping, steam systems, boilers, cooling towers/chillers, geothermal, and other.
  • Support career development and technical skill advancement of team members.
  • Lead, manage, motivate, mentor and inspire a team of Mechanical Engineer.
  • Communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Foster a collaborative team culture with a focus on innovation and excellence, where team members are encouraged to push boundaries and think creatively.
  • Manage project and staffing plans, adjusting them as necessary to meet changing project needs.
  • Oversee engineering project phases from initiation to completion, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Serve as a technical expert and discipline representative at various meetings and events as required.
  • Deliver presentations at conferences, networking events, and professional organizations to highlight the distinctive and innovative services Woolpert offers to clients.
  • Conduct training sessions for internal employees when necessary.
