Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's Engineering Division is seeking Engineering Student Assistants to support the LBNL Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Teams. This part-time variable hours position (up to 20 hrs/week) during the semester and up to 40 hours/week during breaks offers hands-on experience on engineering projects and R&D efforts. This position involves working closely with mechanical and manufacturing engineering projects and R&D teams. Possible assignments can include ongoing instrumentation development, construction, procurement support, engineering process development, testing, and installation, in scientific areas including high energy physics, cosmology, astrophysics, nuclear science, synchrotron x-ray light sources and others. Hardware being developed includes precision optical systems for visible light and x-ray applications, high-performance magnets, vacuum systems, telescope structures, composite structures, ion sources, precision mechanical alignment systems,state-of-the-art detectors, and more.
