This internship offers both office and field experience, exposing you to mechanical systems used in water and wastewater treatment, sustainable infrastructure, and public utilities. Key Responsibilities Support planning, design, and field verification activities for mechanical engineering projects Collect and document data for planning, design, asset tracking, and analysis Assist engineers with field inspections, surveys, and system evaluations Help prepare preliminary reports, recommendations, and technical documentation Complete required City training modules and assist with research as needed What You Bring – Education & Experience Currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program; Minimum of two years of college coursework completed Interest in environmental engineering, water, or wastewater facilities preferred Preferred Certifications Valid Indiana Driver's License, or Valid driver's license with a certified driving record if operating a City vehicle Technical Skills & Knowledge Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering data Strong written and verbal communication skills Comfort working with data collection, measurements, and technical documentation Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt as priorities change Why Work for the City of Fort Wayne This internship provides meaningful, real-world experience in public utilities engineering.
